General Reminders

Elena Arnold posted 10 months ago
I had some major FOMO (fear of missing out) this morning while I knew so many friends were gathered and playing at the new Baldwin Courts.  I have received countless photos and positive messages filled with happiness and gratitude about the new courts.  WOW! EVERY court was full by 8:30 am.

These courts are going to be busy!  Much of our membership who have joined EPPA over the winter months may not have experienced open play yet.  Here are a few tips when going to play.

When are the most popular times to play if you want to go and mix in?  Generally 8:00-11:00 am (sometimes longer) and 4:00- 7:00 pm.  Show up, stack your paddle, and rotate in!

Can I bring my own set group to play with? You can stack your paddles together, but know that if the courts are full and people are waiting, your group must rotate off after one game and get back "in line".  If the courts are empty, you can stay on and play.

Also:
  • There are no benches in the back area yet, bring a foldable chair if you wish.
  • No items should be taken onto the courts.  Just water and your towel.  Bags, chairs, bikes, strollers should all be left outside of the courts.
  • Bring plenty of water- there is no fountain or filling station.  Hopefully that will be a future addition!
  • There are not balls at the courts- players bring their own.  This is a true pickleball surface, much different from an indoor gym floor or the "front two" Baldwin courts.  The most widely used outdoor pickleball is the Franklin X 40Click for more info on this ball if you are interested, they can be found anywhere that sells pickleball gear.
  • On windy and/or sunny days (so most days you would play outside)- the general rule of thumb is to switch sides at six points to make it fair for both teams.
  • The most fun and competitive games occur when you play on a court with other players of your same skill level.

More signage, paddle holders, court numbers, and MORE are coming!  Enjoy what we have and lets keep working together as an EPPA family to support these beautiful courts.
