Offering a quick recap on all the pickleball happenings in Erie this week. It's going to be a good one!
- Nets are up at Zuck Park and Asbury Park. The courts are looking great. Asbury will be used for clinics and lessons, but will be free to play on outside of those times. Right now Millcreek has Asbury courts reserved: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30-11:30 am, Wednesday nights from 5:30-7:30. There will also be other "pop up" events and clinics.
- Fencing will be installed between the north and south courts at Zuck Park. Timeline is unclear but heard it will be "ASAP". Pavilion can be used if not booked, or you can bring a chair. Benches may be coming later this season!
- Starting this Wednesday, June 21st Sherry Elchynski and/or Elena Arnold will be available at Baldwin park from 10:00-11:00 am to offer "how to play pickleball" informative play sessions. If you want to learn the rules of the game, learn different shots, get drill ideas, and see how open play works- come see Sherry and Elena! These hour long play sessions will run all the way through until the end of July. If the back 6 courts are busy, we will be on the front courts.
- Wednesday, June 21 from 9:00-11:00 am Royal Pickleball will be offering demo paddles for you to try while you play at Baldwin Park! Selecting a new paddle can be overwhelming, so this is a great time to ask questions and try before you buy. Selection will include: Diadem Warrior Edge, Franklin STK, Joola Vision and Joola Hyperion and Hyperion Swift. If you find something you like, you can even buy it on the spot. Anyone who demos a paddle will be entered into a drawing for a fun prize.
- Saturday, June 24 is Double Doubles Donut Day! You DO NOT need to sign up or have a partner. This is not a competition. Show up to Baldwin Park or Zuck Park, rotate in with other pickleball loving friends, and have some FUN. Refreshments will be served up between 9:00-11:00 am. Have a friend new to pickleball? Bring that person so he/she can see what the EPPA is all about. We are very grateful to our generous sponsor, Tim Hortons.
- Sunday, June 25 will be our very first shootout at Baldwin Park! The Senior Rotating Round Robin.
-
66 year old and up: 20 players with a start time of 1:00 pm
-
55-65 years old: 24 players with a start time will be 4:00 pm
- Don't worry, seniors...we have a plan. You will NOT be playing 10-12 games plus playoffs, but we will be keeping you busy with lots of competitive matches.
- If you aren't playing, we would love to have you come cheer on your friends! All six courts will be used for this event, so no other play will be allowed at Baldwin Park on Sunday afternoon/evening.
- Last Saturday, June 10 we had several volunteers representing EPPA at the Kid's Expo held at State Representative Ryan Bizzarro's office. They answered questions and showed kids how to play. To all of our amazing volunteers- thank you!
We are so proud to offer this many pickleball related events and this is only ONE week. There's more exciting things to come. Your support and positivity resonates into the community and we appreciate all of our members!
