Planning an outdoor event is always a gamble. You never know what Mother Nature has in store. We have the most incredible members in our organization who truly go with the flow and support all things pickleball. We had a packed weekend full of fun. Here's a little recap.
Double Doubles Donut Day- Saturday
The weather was a bit gloomy, but our members brought the light! We can't thank our sponsor Tim Hortons enough for the donuts. People hung out at Baldwin and Zuck Parks, caught up, and some very helpful volunteers even got a couple of courts dry enough to play on. Our events committee works so hard to make these events possible- thank you! Thank you to Royal Pickleball for the donated Selkirk hats to raffle off. Winners Shelley Haefner and Tim Zlotnicki have already been spotted wearing them!
Senior Rotating Round Robin- Sunday
Today the weather cooperated and we held our inaugural shootout at Baldwin Park! A quick backstory to this shootout. We had our Sunshine Shootout planned for July 15-16 and I got a message from Bob Borgia asking if we could do an event in June. Bob is tired of me telling people this, so it'll be the last time (for a while).... Bob is having surgery on July 6th and won't be able to compete for some time after as he recovers. Without the efforts of Bob, Tom Wisinski, and Jim Perrotto to get the EPPA started, we would not have the pickleball paradise that is Baldwin Park! So, we made it happen and I'm SO glad we did.
Thank you for everyone who signed up- this was the first time that we got every single player registered and paid online before the day of the event. We had the best volunteers (thank you Emily F., Shelley, and Mike A.), fantastic spectators, and amazing participants. To everyone who loaned us a pop-up canopy, cooler, table- thank you!
We know different people like different styles of play, so we try to offer a wide variety. This event was age based while the July event is divided by skill level. We always welcome constructive criticism, but please remember we are an ALL volunteer based organization. I can tell you that hours of planning and preparation go into our events and we do the absolute best we can to appeal to the majority of our membership. We appreciation everyone who showed up, played hard, and had a good time! CLICK HERE for full shootout results and photos.
