Throwing our largest shootout to date was a huge undertaking, but this event went SO smoothly thanks to the many volunteers that showed up. Whether you set up a table, hung a banner, refilled the cooler, or put up a canopy- we appreciate you! This was the first time that Andre and I actually got to be spectators for a few matches because we had a crew of helpers and I can say it until I'm blue in the face, but you are invaluable to us.
I have to give a very special and sincere thank you to Pete Fries and Bruce Sykes because they got to the park very early to start squeegeeing and drying the courts. Bruce even brought his paramotor to speed up the process and it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen!
We had a few last minute withdrawals and we were very thankful to the players who stepped up and filled those spots- Gary Terwilliger, Doug Teel, and Bruce Sykes! You balanced out the brackets and truly shined on the courts.
EPPA strives to host a shootout AT LEAST every quarter and we are coming off of THREE months straight of organized shootouts! May was our "Beginner/ Novice Rotating Round Robin" June was our "Senior Rotating Round Robin" and July was obviously our "Sunshine Shootout". We are going to take a little reprieve to reset and plan for future months, but stayed tuned because we have more fun coming your way!
One last comment about gratitude...the camaraderie that we experienced this weekend from teammates and opponents was next level. Checking on each others well-being, supporting and encouraging other players- that is what EPPA is all about. As we grow, let's keep and foster that mentality even when competition revs up.
The Results are IN!
Before I share the link to the results, I want to highlight our singles divisions. This was the very first time EPPA has offered full court singles and both divisions filled! Singles is a whole different "animal", especially playing seven matches in round robin play in 80 degree weather. I was tired just watching our singles players and I give them all so much credit.
If any players want the full version of your medal photos, please contact me via text or send me an email at e.arnold032@gmail.com and I will get them to you!
