The health benefits of playing pickleball are many. Just to name a few- better cardiovascular health, improved lung function, elevated mood and mental health. However, an article published by Nathaniel Meyersohn of CNN highlights that pickleball, America’s fastest-growing sport, is taking a toll on players. Injuries are on the uptick, as are the number of players passionate about this sport.
An excerpt from the article says:
Pickleball exploded since the pandemic began, and that’s leading to more injuries. According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association trade group, pickleball has grown from 3.5 million players in 2019 to 8.9 million in 2022. The number of players will jump to 22 million this year, the UBS analysts estimates.
What can we do to help prevent injuries so we can meet our friends day after day to play?Anyone else step on the courts, hit a few dinks and drops and then say "I'm ready when you are!" I know I'm not the only one. Thanks to an EPPA member who is rehabbing an injury and his recovery team at FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers, this document was created to promote taking a brief time to warm up before stepping on the courts.
I know we all want to get out there and play, but as we wait for our court to open, running through these easy warm-ups will be a great use of time. Thank you to the FYZICAL team for being proactive and making sure we have the tools necessary to get us ready to be the best pickleballers we can be.
