Annual Meeting Wrap Up and Upcoming Competition

Elena Arnold posted 7 days ago
Lots of info coming your way!  Make sure you read (or scroll) to the end for upcoming chances for local, competitive play.

Annual Meeting

Last week EPPA had a full house at the Erie Yacht Club and a packed agenda for the Annual Meeting.  If a board member did not get to personally thank you for attending,  we want you to know that we genuinely appreciate your support.

If you could not make it, here are some of the talking points. Most of these focus around changes/additions to our pickleball community.

  • EPPA’s Annual Goal: To grow our membership in 2025 through promotion at parks and facilities.  If any facility would like an EPPA sign to hang with our website and QR code to join, please reach out and we will get you one.
  • Just completed a successful merchandise sale- with a FREE shirt offer (178 shirts ordered)
    • We will be in touch when the shirts are ready to be picked up
  • TWO new outdoor courts bringing Whitford Park to a total of four courts
  • NEW hybrid (tennis/pickle) courts in both Lawrence Park and Meadville
  • FOUR new courts coming (Pleasant Ridge Park- Fairview).  The project is anticipated to be completed late summer/early fall.
  • Erie- the city is conducting a Park and Open Space Master Plan, no upgrades to any parks until that plan is finished. EPPA will be able to share input.
  • Millcreek- will continue to grow pickleball through learn to play clinics for adults and youth.  They will support EPPA efforts/ events! Nets are going up this week.
  • Around the Post is expanding and adding two more dedicated courts to total six courts.  They will be reaching out to waitlisted players soon regarding openings! The expansion will allow ATP to welcome about 200 new members. EPPA members will continue to get a $25 discount on membership.
  • Presque Isle Pickleball accepts Silver Sneakers, FitOn, and in the process of getting contract with Renew Active.  PIP is the new home to Passalinqua's Pizzeria. PIP offers free “Learn to Play” clinics every Sunday at noon.
  • COTC continues to support and grow pickleball and has added additional times from 11-1 pm some weekdays! Reach out to Don Wolfe or Dian Tessauro for more information.
  • The YMCAs ALL have pickleball hours, contact the branch directly for exact schedules.

EPPA promotes and supports many other areas: Titusville, Warren, Lakewood YMCA, Findley Lake, and more. For places to play and hours, click here.  If you know of more current hours, please respond to this email with schedules.

Group Me and Team Reach: there are MANY messaging app groups for different parks/facilities.  There is a new general Baldwin Park Group Me that you can join just by searching Baldwin Park. If you belong to a private facility, reach out to them for Group Me or Team Reach info.

Changing of the Board

  • 2025 will be a rolling transition year where some current members will be ending terms after “training” replacements.  THANK YOU to the following board members who spent endless hours supporting and growing Erie Pickleball Players Association endeavors.
  • Renee Majchrzak (Secretary)
    • Board member since the beginning
    • Organized dozens of successful events
  • Rick Seibel (Treasurer)
    • Volunteered for a two year term and brought us into the digital age
  • Sherry Elchynski (Board Member)
    • Served for 3 + years, pivotal with clinics and trainings
    • Introduced hundreds of new players to the sport

We will be welcoming Jeremy Spaeder, Treasurer and Nina Siggia, Board Member and co-chair of events committee (partnering with Steph Weunski)! We are excited to have new talent stepping into these roles.
