Let's Talk Paddle Racks

Elena Arnold posted 3 days ago
Since the newer six courts at Baldwin Park opened, there has been discussion about where the paddle racks should be placed.  The paddle racks belong to the Erie Pickleball Players Association, not the City of Erie, so we are able to move them if needed.  We are not able to move benches or other park equipment due to park upkeep and mowing purposes.

The EPPA board made the decision to hang the paddle racks by the big blue wall as that area is more shielded from random park visitors.  The paddle racks are very high quality and we discussed that having them somewhat out of view may keep them in better condition longer. However, we understand that the area by the wall is bright and sunny in the morning hours.

We are happy to move the paddle racks IF that is what current EPPA members want.  We are not willing to move them daily (east side of the park in the morning and west side of the park in the evening).

Note:  The Challenge Court Paddle Rack will NOT be moved.

If you are a current EPPA member who plays at Baldwin and have an opinion about where the paddle racks should be placed for the remainder of this outdoor season, please click this link and cast your vote by this Friday (August 1) at 5:00 pm. If you are unable to utilize the link, please email Elena directly e.arnold032@gmail.com and simply state if you want to keep the paddle racks where they are or if you want them moved to the east side fencing by the hill.

Other park reminders:
Baldwin Park:  as discussed at our EPPA Annual Meeting, the city is formulating a Comprehensive Recreation, Parks and Open Space Plan.  No upgrades will be done to any city parks until this survey is completed. A timeline for this Comprehensive Recreation, Parks and Open Space Plan can be found here. As we get more information, we will be sure to communicate it to you!

All Parks: If you see stray water bottles or other items left behind, please pick them up. We know that the trash left behind is most likely NOT yours because our membership always looks out for the well being of our courts. To help keep our parks (and reputation) squeaky clean, we appreciate everyone who helps in the clean up efforts!

Taco Tuesday

This event for Tuesday, August 12 at Zuck Park is almost full!  We may have some room to expand, so please utilize the waitlist. This event is for current EPPA members and since EPPA is picking up the tab, we truly appreciate it if you only register if you know you can attend.  If plans change, please let us know ASAP so another member can have your spot.  For full details and to register, click here. You MUST be signed in as a member to view the link and to register.

Erie Gives Day

August 12 is also Erie Gives Day!  Last year, EPPA raised almost $3,000- which is a BIG amount for a small non-profit!  We were able to help purchase park upkeep equipment and new supplies for our events and tournaments; like pop up shade tents and coolers.  Most importantly, we were able to sponsor some FREE tournaments, especially our youth division at the annual Memorial Shootout.  We had ten youth players sign up and each one of them got a full tournament experience at no cost to them! If you are so inclined to donate on Erie Gives Day, we appreciate your support and will make sure those funds are allocated to support and expand pickleball in our area.
